Security Expert Brian Honan Anticipates Repercussions From Shift to Remote Working
Will the COVID-19 pandemic lead to a spike in the number of reported data breaches? Not necessarily, says cybersecurity expert Brian Honan. But he says that the rush to adopt cloud-based services and expanded remote services might change the types of breaches being reported.
Honan, CEO of Dublin-based BH Consulting, says it's important to make a clear distinction between more data breaches occurring and more data breaches that - thanks to the EU's General Data Protection Regulation - are being reported to regulators and the public.
"What we are seeing is an increase in the number of reported breaches - not necessarily an increase in breaches," he says. "Breaches always happen and always have been."
