When it comes to protecting passwords, it's essential to couple smart technology with smart policy, says Cid Ferrara of LastPass.

"Traditionally, IT professionals have spent a huge amount of money and investment in trying to protect the perimeter around the network, but the reality is a lot of vulnerabilities are stemming from your human beings," she says, referring to bad password management habits.

In an interview at Information Security Media Group's recent Fraud and Breach Summit in New York City, Ferrara discusses:

  • Suggestions for policies for strong passwords;
  • Why education isn't enough to stop password exploitation;
  • Important questions to ask about password technology when exploring options.

Ferrara is vice president of sales at LastPass. Previously she held positions at Art Technology Group and eStara.
