Responsibilities This position is located at the Grand Prairie Office Complex (GPOC), Grand Prairie, Texas. The incumbent functions as the Chief, GPOC Network Administration (GPOCNA) Section, Network Management Branch, Information, Policy, and Public Affairs Division. The GPOCNA 's primary mission is to provide continuity of operations (COOP) for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) in the event of a natural or man-made disaster occurring in the Washington, D.C. area which disables the similar data center at the BOP 's headquarters building. Long-term, the GPOCNA will function as a day-to-day Network Communications Center (NCC) servicing approximately half of the BOPNet user population. The Chief, GPOCNA acts as a technical expert in the areas of personal computer hardware, Local Area Networks (LANs), commercial off the shelf personal computer software, custom personal computer programming, and telecommunications. This individual is an expert technical resource providing regional and field personnel as well as Central Office staff with support on nationwide computer applications. They develop software and evaluate new technology within guidelines specified by the Office of Information Systems that will support all Bureau personnel, including line staff and BOP senior management. Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level. Experience: You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. AND Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:  Experience in designing, configuring, and implementing local area networks.  Experience planning, organizing, and implementing a highly complex and state-of-the-art server farm of local area and wide area networks.  Experience serving as an expert resource for personal computers, local and wide area networks, relational databases, various programming languages such as C, C++, Visual Basic, Java, and other information system technologies.  Experience providing advanced hardware and software analysis, evaluation, and recommendations to users of personal computers and associated equipment to include system planning at various locations. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. The representative rate for this position is $115,304 per annum ($55.25 per hour).

Special Conditions of Employment Section:

Initial appointment to a supervisory/managerial position requires a one-year probationary period.

The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.
