Responsible for assisting and supporting the Risk Leaders for determining that all operating policies and procedures are properly adhered to and for investigating any deviations from standard, which may adversely affect the disposition of Credit Union assets or employees. The position is responsible for factual documentation of the event and presentation to the responsible Leadership. This includes the preparation of prosecution paperwork when appropriate. The position will attend business related conferences and meetings and conduct training as necessary. Assists in implementing risk management practices that provide adequate security safeguards to protect the financial and physical assets of the credit union.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Knowledgeable about state, federal and local rules and regulations, restrictions and requirements relative to the risk exposures inherent in the credit union’s operations. Conducts external investigations which involve persons outside the company utilizing various databases and operating systems for extensive research to validate processes. The investigations may include robberies, check fraud, credit card fraud, or other criminal episodes. Prepares a detailed written synopsis of the investigation. This information is then communicated to appropriate departments within the credit union. Acts as liaison with law enforcement agencies for all credit union related issues. Conducts inspections of member transactions through account research, CCTV video review, and examination related documents. May appear in court to testify on behalf of the credit union as required. Conducts security audits within credit union facilities including reviewing the condition of all security equipment, i.e. alarms, cameras and safes. Reports findings to appropriate leader in order to resolve any issues/concerns in a timely manner. Prepares and disseminates timely communications related to various scams, counterfeit scenarios and other related theft and fraud trends. Conducts formal fraud and security training and presentations to a variety of audiences. Assists with maintaining credit union record retention. Assists in physical security projects, as assigned, and performs periodic branch audits over physical security. Maintains monthly branch cash audit files and performs periodic branch audit over cash and cash controls. Becomes/is an advocate of The Michigan First Way, supporting all facets of it, including complete fulfillment of Our Promise, 5 STARS Service, SOLVE IT and our ISMs. Fosters a positive demeanor and image through professional representation in all contacts with both, team members and members. Consistently reflects and displays each of our “ISMs” in daily job performance, as well as in all business interactions while executing on our goals and initiatives. Learns and utilizes EMEC (Every Member’s Experience Counts) in day-to-day responsibilities when communicating with members only. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree plus a minimum of one year of fraud investigation experience and at least three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to respond objectively and appropriately to common inquiries from credit union members, internal stakeholders, business partners, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports and information, and appropriate legal documents. Ability to write reports case notes, account notes, etc., that conform to a prescribed style and format. Ability to confidently and effectively present information verbally to senior leaders , members, and public groups. May be required to become certified as a Notary Public for the purpose of verifying signatures, executing documents and obtaining information. Ability to operate a personal computer, including a full working knowledge and ability to utilize the following software programs: Word Processing (i.e. Microsoft Word, WordPerfect) Spreadsheet (i.e. Excel, Lotus, Quattro Pro) PowerPoint Fully knowledgeable in credit union terminology and acronyms commonly utilized in the day to day communication of team members, leaders, and others involved in the credit union system.
