Insights on Financial Supply Chain Compromise
Crane Hassold of Abnormal Security on Latest Financial Crime Research FindingsAbnormal Security is out with new research on the various types of email attacks, and it shows that traditional business email compromise is evolving into a new form, as cybercriminals move from executive impersonation to vendor impersonation. Crane Hassold shares insights on these attacks, collectively called financial supply chain compromise, and how best to detect, deter and respond to them.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2022, Hassold also discusses:
- How financial supply chain compromise manifests
- Why these crimes are so hard to detect
- And what this shift means for the cybersecurity world moving forward
Hassold leads an intelligence team responsible for researching enterprise-focused phishing threats. Prior to moving to the private sector in 2015, he served as an analyst at the FBI for more than 11 years, spending most of his career in the Behavioral Analysis Unit, providing support to the intelligence community and law enforcement partners against national security adversaries and serial criminals. In 2012, he helped create the FBI's Cyber Behavioral Analysis Center, which takes an asymmetric approach to examine cyberthreats by combining the traditional behavioral concepts used for decades in the violent crime world with technical expertise to gain a holistic understanding of threat actor TTPs.
