Destructive cyberattacks, once rare, have been surging as attackers seek to cover their tracks and complicate life for incident responders, says Rick McElroy of Carbon Black.

But he warns that such destruction, often achieved via malware, is just part of what is typically a much bigger attack chain.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2019 in San Francisco, McElroy discusses:
- Modern bank heists;
- The rise in destructive malware attacks;
- Attackers' counter-incident-response efforts;
- Increases in attackers' ability to move laterally inside penetrated networks.
McElroy is head of security strategy at Carbon Black.
